Why is organic food so *#@! expensive??: TEDTalk

To find a TEDTalk that worked with my topic, I first Googled “Organic Food” and “TEDTalk” together. That gave me a bunch of interesting results and this video caught my attention. The speaker is Ali Partovi, who is an investor for many sustainable farming companies. He also serves on the board of the non-profit FoodCorps.

The video focuses on the price of organic food and how it relates to organic farming costs. A big misconception about the organic industry which I was also unfamiliar with until this video, was that although the food is being sold for a lot of money it does not mean it is as expensive to produce. Majority of the country would buy organic if it was more affordable from the facts the speaker presented in the video. He stated that ¾ Americans in 2014 purposefully bought organic in the last year. He also noted that 91% of people who shopped at Walmart responded in a survey that they would buy organic if they could. The video sheds light on what organic farming actually is, what the world would look like if we transitioned to sustainable farming, and is easy to understand for all audiences.
